Why Stencil Grids? Stencil Grids How to use Stencil Grids Shipping
When I began to work extensively with templates I was having problems getting the templates to “line up” correctly. I realized that I needed to make registration lines on the quilt so that the templates would work better. I tried making all sorts of markings with all sorts of rulers, marking tools, etc., to find what would work best.
What I found is that rulers and marking pens were NOT accurate. From the measurements on the ruler, to the way you held your marking pen, all influenced the accuracy of the markings. I began to look for the “perfect” way to mark the quilts.
I couldn’t find what I wanted so I designed Stencil Grids.
The Stencil Grids come in three grid sizes, 1 inch, 1-1/2 inch grids and 2 inch grids, and they come in two rectangular shapes. The Stencil Grids are laser cut and are made with the same translucent plastic material that hand quilting stencils are made with.
Simply place the stencil on the quilt that is already on the quilt machine and using your marking tool of choice draw in the “open” spaces to create an accurate grid. Once the grid is on the quilt top it can be used in a myriad of way.
Tip: If you have problems with stencils slipping while you are marking, simply spray the back of the stencil with temporary quilt basting spray. This will hold your stencil in place while you continue marking.
I use my grids for lining up templates and as “dividers” in background fill in designs – I know that you will find all sorts of ways to use your Stencil Grids.

When you are using the Longarm University quilting templates, you must mark an accurate grid on the fabric. The etched lines on the template correspond to the drawn grids on the fabric for proper placement of the templates.
This is my favorite way to use the Stencil Grids. This pattern can be stitched with minimal starts and stops and adds a lot of texture. I love to use this behind appliqué's. It is quick to stitch and my customers love it!

If you love feathers, you can use the Stencil Grids as guides to create wonderful feather designs. This is especially useful in large areas which would need a lot of background fill in stitching.
I love Continuous Curves! The Stencil Grids are the perfect way to draw the grid onto the fabric and then fill in with Continuous Curve.
I KNOW you will find other ways to use your Stencil Grids!
